What are the forms and connotations of Music Videos?

According to Andrew Goodwin's book Dancing in the Distraction Factory there are a number of key features that most music videos adhere to.

1. There is a relationship between the lyrics and the visuals - with the visuals either illustrating, contradicting or amplifying the music.
2. Particular music genres have the own music style and iconography (which in turn affects Music Television with a number of channels being created for certain genres such as Kerrang, Kiss and Dance Nation.)
